About

Primarily my work is autobiographical: Whether navigating hesitant paths of fragility and fear associated in the psychological surrender present in various private and public contracts, or the anxieties surrounding unwavering experiences of lonesomeness, and lack of any authentic connection with others -often exacerbated in an era of endemic superficiality. Or the failure of culture to address my subjective sensibilities- sometimes resulting in cycles of habitual and often vicious self- destructive patterns.

Given this, an intention of my work is to consciously transform my personal dislocation/s into a visual strategy of disclosure. I become my own subject, often using my own body as a site and surface for art making. Oscillating between (self) mockery and sincerity, I aim to construct a forum, through my work, for my own artistic (and non-artistic) failures, successes, self–delusions, and disappointments.

Another intention is to reach out to the viewer without the need (hopefully) to re-inscribe or idealize the hyper-subjectivity, ego, or sentimentality sometimes associated with documenting a lived experience, but rather highlight and/or exploit the late capitalist quest for hyper individualism and disinterested autonomy at the expense of community.

I am stimulated by exploring the reality in and between what is and often isn’t socially permissible. With a focused interest in the authenticity of suppressed emotions, I am wanting to navigate, and respond to, the consequences of placing the personal into the public, whilst subsequently examining interpersonal interactions and psychological spaces. I am interested in the disconnections between shared reality and individual interpretation and the difficulty in defining collective fact.
